I. Course Description
This course is based upon Alabama Course of Study: Visual Arts Level Two. Art Two is designed to address the needs of students with Level One visual arts experience. These students require concrete experiences that provide direction and advanced skill development. As they continue to learn the visual language and understand the significance of artistic symbolism, students focus on the production of visual relationships; the exploration of techniques, processes, and media; and the study of history, culture, aesthetics, and criticism.
II. Grading Assessment
Students will be graded based on Drawings 25%, Tests 25%, Daily Work 25%, and Projects 25%.
III. Course Objectives/Goals
- Create works of art with a variety of visual relationships.
- Produce works of art using a variety of techniques.
- Demonstrate safe handling of tools according to studio and environmental practices, procedures, and regulations.
- Evaluate student works of art orally or in writing according to specified criteria.
- Describe various artistic contributions to environmental and social issues.
- Produce a reflective narrative that critically analyzes selected works of art.
- Use appropriate visual art terminology in response to works of art, including the elements of art and principles of design.
- Describe stylistic characteristics of selected works of art and architecture.
- Identify various uses of the visual arts in business and industry.
- Compare ways of producing, responding, and understanding in the visual arts with other arts, disciplines, the humanities, and other academic subject areas.

V. Website
The art class will have a website. If you do not want your student to have pictures on the website please make a check on the back of the syllabus. The website is going to be a great tool for students to get make up work and for parents to see what is going on.
VI. Supply List and Fee
The St. Clair County Board of Education requires a $20 are fee that must be paid within the first nine weeks. This fee helps furnish new supplies every semester. Students are provided with many materials in art including, but not limited to, crayons, brushes, paint, color pencils, markers, scissors, rulers, clay, glazes, liquid glue, glue sticks, glue guns, construction paper, charcoal pencils, ebony pencils, pen and ink, clay, kiln use, etc.
Students who do not pay their fee will not be allowed to participate in class. Students who have not paid their fee will have an alternate assignment outside of the art room. I understand the $20 can be a burden. If there are problems and you would like to split the $20 into payments, feel free to contact me.
VII. Supply List
2 pieces poster board, three ring binder, liquid hand soap, and wood pencils.
VIII. Extra Credit
Students will receive 10 points per test grade for each item they bring. Maximum of 40 points per 9 weeks. Students may bring extra credit for second 9 weeks early.
Extra credit items: white cardstock, cleaning wipes, sharpies, 3 rolls paper towels, and spray surface cleaner (non bleach).
IX. Art Show
At the end of each semester there is an art show. Each student has at least one piece of artwork in the art show. Everyone is encouraged to participate.
