1. Textbook: United States Government: Democracy in Action New York; Glencoe, 2005

2. Class Procedure: This is a general survey course of American Government. The instructor will be presenting the course material through lecture/class notes, handouts, and at all times an open forum method where students may feel free to interject questions and responses.

It is imperative that a good set of daily notes be taken and utilized! These notes will serve as a foundation for study guides and other assignments. The textbook should be used as a basis for reinforcement; it will not be the only source of information because many of the exam questions will be drawn from class lectures and discussions. However, an exam question will be drawn strictly from the text or other supplementary reading in order to make sure you are keeping up with your reading.

3. Assignments: Organization is a much needed skill for anyone who plans to be successful in the workforce, thus, you will be required to keep a notebook,  I strongly suggest buying a three-ring binder so you can keep up your work organized. The details of the notebook will be further discussed in class, but this provides you, the student, the opportunity to display your quality work and accomplishments. The notebook will be evaluated and graded by the instructor at an announced/unannounced date. You must have your notebook with you in order to receive credit. Notebook= 100 pts.

4. Exams (Tests): Exams will consist of a combination of some or all of the following: short answer, multiple choice, and essay. Before the exam a basic review session will be held  bit it is your responsibility to discipline yourself in studying small portions of the material each day. If you wait until the day before the exam your grade will reflect your lack of effort.

5. Course Objectives:

1. Understand the origins and functions of government.

2. Appreciate the basic American Documents.

3. Understand the rights and responsibilities of citizens.

4.Understand and evaluate America's role in the world community.
