Material to be covered by the course:

A comprehensive overview of United States History to 1877 involving the required textbook material will be presented in class. Individual projects, research assignments, outside reading and other classroom activities will also be a requirement of this class.

Course Objectives:  Students will be able to:

1.   Develop and apply reference skills to investigate research topics in U.S. History.

2.    Extend development of geography skills by utilizing maps, chart, and graphs.

3.    Understand the importance of current events as they relate to different  societies. 

4.    Discuss the motives for European exploration and their impact on the development of the Western              Hemisphere.

5.   Develop an understanding of the creation and development of the unique American society. 

6.   Identify the motives behind territorial expansion and settlement of the United State

7.   Describe and discuss major political ideologies that have shaped American culture. 

8.   Evaluate the impact of major political, religious, and social revolutions.

9.    Analyze the causes, course, and consequences of the Civil War.

10.    Develop an understanding of the major concepts related to the duty of economics and participate in economic related activities.

Policies related to class: 

Attendance Policy- This class will follow the attendance policy set forth by the Saint Clair County Board of Education.

Make-Up Work-this will adhere to the make-up policy set forth by the Saint Clair County Board of Education. It is the student's responsibility to obtain and turn in make-up work and test, not  the responsibility of the teacher.

Conferences- Conferences are available by calling 467-7833 and arranging an appointment through the main office. 

Academic Misconduct- All acts of dishonesty in any work constitute academic misconduct. Upon suspicion of such behavior, parents will be notified and further  action taken if necessary. 

Policy on Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 students- Reasonable accommodations for those qualified individuals with disabilities will be made. If accommodations are needed to meet course requirements, the instructor will make these changes to meet the individual's needs.
