
On Saturday, October 6th the SHS Tiger Band competed in the Covered Bridge Marching Festival, sponsored by the Oneonta High School. All the weeks of practice and sectionals paid off when the band took the field. The show was full of energy and Springville Pride. When it came award time the officers ran out on the field and the rest of the band cheered from the stands. Everyone was nervous to hear how we had performed.
We received all ones, but that was just the begging. We also received Best in Class Drum Major, Danceline, Colorguard, Band, The Sonny Tolbert Award and the Amanda Marks Memorial Award for highest scoring Colorguard and Danceline. This award was very special to the SHS auxiliary because this award is given in memory of Amanda Marks who tragically died two weeks before her graduation.
Then, just when we thought we had enough trophies for the whole year, we came in first place for our division. We were all so happy that in true SHS fashion we were the loudest kids there. The bus ride home was never quiet or dull, and the officers had bus duty. For many seniors this was one of their last competitions and for many freshmen it was their first. Our first competition of the season could not have gone any better.
