Drama Syllabus

Course Description

    This course complies with the required contents for the Alabama Course of Study. The primary objective of this course is to teach students the history, structure, and varieties of drama, play production, and other theatrical art forms. Drama provides a way of thinking outside the box by using your own individuality, originality, and creativity. This course will also provide you with the basic foundation of drama, stage crafts, and play production. Our emphasis will be on improvisation, pantomime and mime, voice and diction, acting, and play production. YOU WILL SUCCEED IN THIS CLASS!

Classroom Rules

    1. Report to class on time. Note: "On time" means that you are seated when the bell rings.

    2. Pay attention and listen for directions the first time they are given.

    3. Show respect for yourself and others' ideas, opinions, and property.

    4. Bring all necessary materials to class.

    5. Come to class ready and willing to learn.

Positive Consequences

    1. A phone call and/or note to parents

    2. Verbal praise

    3. Assignment Passes (These cannot be substituted for test, skits, plays, ot special projects.)

Negative Consequences

    1. A conference with Mrs. Palmer

    2. A parent phone call/ Parent conference

    3. Demerits/Enforcement of school-wide discipline plan

Materials

As you enter the classroom each day, you are expected to have the following:

    1. A 1 inch three-ring binder with four dividers/sections labeled POD, Class Notes, Handouts, Homework, and Test and quizzes.

    2. Wide ruled notebook paper

    3. Black ink pens or pencils

    4. Two-pocket folder with fasteners for your journal

    5. Textbook-The Stage and the School

Classroom Procedures

    1. Students should enter the classroom, pick a prop, and immediately begin writing a 1 minute skit incorporating their props of the day and 1 character.

    2.Each student will be given ten passes out of the class for the entire semester. "Use them wisely."

    3. Students' work should be headed with name, date, assignment description, and class block. The heading should be located in the top right corner of each student's paper. Students' work must be turned in according to each student's class block in the assignment sorter.

    4. Objectives, homework assignments, projects, and upcoming tests will be posted on the right side of the board each day.

Grading Policy

Grades will be calculated according to a point system.

    POD                                           50 points

    Class work/Homework           Points may vary depending upon specific assignments

    Journals                                     50 points

    Quizzes/Tests                           10-100 points

    Skits, Plays, and Special           Points may vary depending upon specific assignments

    Projects

Make-up Work

    If a student is absent, it is the student's responsibility to collect his or her missed assignments. A student is allowed 2 days per excused absence to schedule make-up test and complete missed assignments. if a student does not make-up his or her work within 2 days,  he or she will receive a grade of zero (0) for the missed work.
