Housing Dynamics
This course content will be based upon the Alabama Course of Study: Family and Consumer Sciences. The family and consumer sciences program begins at the middle to junior high level and regresses to the high school level. This course is designed to allow students to explore housing designs and furnishings and consumer needs throughout the life span. Course content also offers students opportunities to explore how housing fulfills needs, analyze decor for homes, research careers, and furnishings. Hands-on activities and experiences conducted in the classroom and laboratories are important components of this class. Leadership development concepts and Family Career and Community Leaders of America as an instructional system are taught as an integral part of this course. This course is taught for an eighteen-week period to 9th through 12th grade students. There are NO prerequisites required.
Fees:
A required $20.00 course fee should be paid in full upon entering the class.
Textbook:
There will be no distribution of textbooks. A classroom set remains in the department for student use. If a student is absent, he/she will have to check out a book from the teacher.
Essential Functions:
Keep organized notebook
Label assignments correctly
Take accurate and useful class notes
Complete assignments/homework
Read and comprehend the text and supplemental readings
Communicate using standard grammar, sentence structure, and paragraph development
Understand and respond accurately to higher order test questions
Participate in class discussions and laboratories
Perform work in cooperative groups in an orderly manner
Supplies:
-1" white three ring binder
- Blue or black pens (2)
- Loose leaf paper
- Dividers - 5 pack - Notes/DW, CE, Reading, FCCLA, Labs
- Colored Pencils, Graph Paper
Grading/Assessment
Points will be earned by daily work, laboratory grades, tests, projects/activities, and notebook. Students will be responsible for recording their grades in a notebook organization/grade sheet. Grades will be determined by dividing points earned by total points possible.
Policy/Philosophy
Academic, attendance, and discipline policies of the school will be followed. All students will have the opportunity for success in the classroom.
