Music Appreciation
Teacher: Mrs. Jacqueline Garrett
Email - jackie.garrett@sccboe.org

Purpose: The student will learn to appreciate, distinguish, and identify different types of music by studying written music from its beginnings in the 1400s with the Gregorian chants through the present modern music of the 1990s.
This will be achieved by listening to, analyzing, and describing music and having an understanding of music in relation to history and world culture. The student objective is to learn, understand, and enjoy the various styles and types of music throughout history through the music appreciation class.
Course Content: This class follows the Alabama Course of Study in Arts Education, published in 1998 as well as following the National Standards for Arts Education for High Schools, Grades 9 - 12, published in 1994. These standards have launched a national effort to bring new vision and understanding to arts education for all students.
