Dear Parents:

We have great news! Springville High School made AYP in all areas last year! In order to continue our success, we wanted to give you a summary of the goals of the Continuous Improvement Plan for SHS for the 2010-2011 school years.

· Reading scores on the Alabama High School Graduation Exam (AHSGE) are still below where we’d like them to be. Therefore, we are continuing to focus on reading and literacy strategies in all classes to improve our students’ skills.

· We are also focusing on improving the Math AHSGE scores. Our math teachers are working on our students’ particular weaknesses in their classes.

How can you help?

· Encourage your child to increase his or her time spent reading. The reading material doesn’t necessarily have to be educational; reading for pleasure increases vocabulary development and reading comprehension.

· Attendance in class is so important. Try to schedule anything that may take your child out of school around core classes. Any time missed in class can greatly affect your child’s education.
