Course Descriptions:
Algebra 1 is a formal in- depth
study of algebraic
concepts and the real number system. It is an enhancement of the material
learned in the 8th grade with new additions. Simplifying expression and solving
equations are a major part of the course. Function concepts, graphing linear
sentences,
solving absolute value and quadratic equations are also an integral part of this
course.
Topics related to polynomials such as factoring and operations on polynomials
are also
stressed. The pace will be fast and some material will be new, so put on your
"running shoes"
and get ready for a quick ride.
A very large portion of
the Alabama High School Graduation Exam in
mathematics is covered in this course. You must pass all parts of the exam to
graduate
Materials: pencils, binders, papers, calculator (cheap one that can not perform Fractions), Graph paper (small pack).
Grades - Home work , Tests, quizzes, notebook , Activities, Newspaper assignments. (test will count 70% of your grade and everything else will count 30%)
Attendance - It is vital for each student to attend all class meetings. Since you are now on block schedule, you will be in class for 95 minutes. If you miss 1 day of class it will be like missing 2 days work of work last year. If this occurs, then it will be Your responsibility to check the homework folder for the assignment when you return to class the next day. You will be given a 0 for the assignment if not turned in. Missed test will be handles a little differently according to the situation, but will still need to be made up within 2 or 3 days.
Classroom Rules- Keep seated (you are not allowed to leave your seat without permission)
No talking (Please raise Your hand to ask questions; don't talk when I am)
Be prepared (have all materials needed for class when you walked in the door)
Respect Other (no negativity allowed!!, treat others as you want to be treated)
No Snacks, gum, or Candy (You will be allowed to have them at my discretion and only then)
