I. Textbook: The American Vision Volume I Alabama Edition. New York: McGraw Hill, 2005.

II. Class Overview:

This is a course of United States History covering events from the exploration and colonial period through the reconstruction era after the civil war. Throughout the year material will be presented through lecture using powerpoints, handouts, group activities and class discussions. Current events will be discussed throughout the school year as well. Many lecture notes will not come from the textbook, so it is imperative that students pay attention and take daily lecture notes. This class will be as informative, interesting, and entertaining as you want it to be, and I will do my best to make it that way.

III. Assignments:

Homework will be assigned throughout the course. Homework will be 20 percent of your grade in this course. Assignments are expected to be on time and students are to complete their own work, cheating in any form will not be accepted. Assignments that are not turned in one time, without an excused absence or permission by the instructor will be deducted 10 points off the assignment for each day it is late. Students who do not complete their own work will be given a zero and the appropriate punishment. Study guides will be assigned at the beginning of each chapter and will be due on the day of the exam for the particular chapter or chapters.  These study guides will be worth half an exam grade and will give the student assistance in preparing for the exam on the material covered. There will be daily assignments done each day in class along with participation points which together make up 10 percent of your grade.

IV. Exams and Quizzes:

Exams will consist of some or all of the following: multiple choice, true/false, matching, and essays. Exams will be over the material covered on a particular chapter including material from the textbook and lecture notes. Exam grades make up 50 percent of your overall grade. Cheating on exams or quizzes will not be tolerated and any student caught doing so will be given a zero on their exam and the appropriate punishment. Quizzes will be given over assigned reading as well as the daily lecture notes, and will make up 20 percent of your grade
